Tuesday Feb 26 at 8pm CST Learning to Love the Night Sky with Astronomers Without Borders Founder Mike Simmons

Join the Dudes n Beer podcast Tuesday February 26th at 8pm CST as host Christopher Jordan sits down for a discussion on learning to love the night sky with Astronomers Without Borders founder, Mike Simmons.

We all share the same sky, and Astronomers Without Borders brings the world together to share our passion of astronomy and the wonders of the Universe.

Observing projects bring people together to share their activities with each other.

Support projects allow those in developed countries to share with others, making it possible for everyone to enjoy the wonders of the night sky.

Online programs bring everyone together live for remote observing.

And in the process of looking outward together, we learn about each other and create lasting bonds, regardless of country or culture.

It is this bond between people that Astronomers Without Borders hopes to foster. A brief message or the gift of a small telescope can grow into lasting bonds, goodwill and friendships that reach around the world. Understanding replaces ignorance and suspicion. Media images are superceded by the faces of real people. Relationships, support and personal connections supplant stereotypes.

For millennia man has look at the night sky with wonder and awe. Since the days of Galileo we have been gazing beyond our own atmosphere and peer into the non-void of space. How have hundreds of years of Astronomy affecting not only the scientific arc of mankind, but our appreciation of the planet we live on? How has this scientific endeavor moved from backyard of a few dedicated individuals, to lab and multi-million dollar facilities, only to return to the backyard of now the average person?

With the advent of the modern privatized space race and the arrival of technology that now make astronomy affordable to the average person, how has the field of astronomy changed over recent years? How have backyard astronomers made more of a difference than ever before in the tracking and even discovery of celestial bodies? With so few chances to see stars in a major city, how can we build excitement for stargazing in the minds of children and how can we make astronomy an ongoing concern for future generations?

Join the Dudes and Beer podcast Tuesday February 26th at 8pm CST as we explore the life changing topic of backyard astronomy and developments in the world of backyard astronomy with founder and CEO of Astronomers Without Borders, Mike Simmons.
